Steel has come a long way since the 80’s and we believe it is still the best material for a bicycle.
We use premium double and triple butted 4130 steel alloy from Columbus and Dedaccia. We select the right tubes for the right purpose and this flexibility optimizes the ideal mix of ride quality, durability and performance.
The weight penalty of modern steel is minor and most of our completed frames weigh less than entry level carbon and aluminum bikes.
Custom steel bikes are wildly customizable to ensure personalized fit and optimized geometry while tuning stiffness and compliance where you need it most.
Our frames are fillet brazed with a mix of nickel bronze and silver alloy taking care to leave tidy fillets with precise heat control.
We believe bicycles should be built to last. Steel bicycles are a lifetime bicycle, with proper care they are still rideable in decades to come and the frames are often easily repairable and modifiable.

An Afternoon with Six Mile Bicycles
Located a few minutes north of Nelson, British Columbia, Six Mile Bikes is a new framebuilder offering made-to-order bikes with a refreshingly personal approach inspired by a career as a ski guide. The Six Mile Bikes shop is located on Lower 6 Mile Rd just outside Nelson, BC. We work, raise our family and recreate in a beautiful location in southern BC. The bikes we build here are tested on winding mountain passes, rough forest service roads and some of the gnarliest single track around.
